A professional email address without paying for hosting or Google Workspace

A freelancer or small business owner emailing a client from @gmail.comisn't doing anything wrong, but it doesn't read the same way as an address on your own domain. What Workspace/365 actually require

• Buying a domain yourself, from a separate registrar, and keeping it renewed.
• Configuring MX, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records correctly — get these wrong and mail either doesn't arrive or lands in spam.
• A recurring per-user, per-month subscription, whether or not you're sending much volume.
• Migrating your existing mail and contacts into a brand-new mailbox, or running two inboxes in parallel.

None of that is unreasonable if you actually need a full hosted mailbox platform — shared team calendars, admin controls across a dozen employees, storage quotas measured in the hundreds of gigabytes. But if what you actually want is just an address that looks professional and reaches the inbox you already use, it's a lot of infrastructure for that.
